Testing for cancerous cells of the cervix is done through a Pap smear. It is important to have your annual exam to detect any symptoms of future cancerous tissue or cells, because early detection is key to successful treatment and helps avoid complications. After the age of 30 a combination of Pap smear and HPV test should be performed.
